Beautiful Winter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been the most beautiful winter here in Pagosa Springs. While the snow presents its share of problems, the beauty of God's creation is spectacular. Allan took these pictures last month. Wish we could say they are pictures of our ranch, but unfortunately they are not. If wishin' could make it happen...

Hope you are having a good winter too. We used to ski in our younger days, but haven't attempted it for a few years. Our kids and grandkids love it, but find that sledding is a lot more affordable.


Price Changes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Allan and I hate price changes, but unfortunately we are forced to make a few adjustments on the beef prices. We have not had an overall price increase since we started - although we have had a few adjustments here and there. We find this increase is necessary as costs increase. Most of the prices are increasing just a little, while some have not increased at all.

We hope that in making these changes we will not lose you as customers. To remain in business we must make a profit, which means we must occasionally adjust prices, but we also realize that to stay in business we must stay competitive. The line we walk is very tough and we want you to know how very much we appreciate your continued support.


New Cuts and Newsletter Discount
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have added some new cuts to our beef list. Due to popular request we will now have London Broil, Chuck Steak and Skirt Steak. Kind of fun to add something new and hope you all enjoy the new choices.

For all of you folks receiving this newsletter we will hold the old prices throughout the month of March. So order now and tell us that you receive the newsletter and want the old prices, and we will honor that. All of the new pricing has been posted to our website already. If you can't remember the old price just give us a call or send an email.


Watch Those Labels!

John Erb made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals (see link below) for a book he was writing called "The Slow Poisoning of America". In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were using MSG to create obese mice and rats to use in diet and diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and humans?) to become obese.

It is shocking to see how much MSG, or Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, is in the foods we feed our children and ourselves everyday. It has an addictive effect on the human body which is why you find it in so many foods. Go to your pantry and refrigerator and check it out. I was shocked myself. The number of restaurants that routinely use it in their food preparation in appalling. Click on the link below and do a search on "MSG Obese" to see how MSG is being used in obesity studies. Click on the individual studies to see the research yourself. If you are like me you will be mad but better informed. And more careful. Watch those labels!

Meat Supplies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were out of all of our beef steaks for awhile, but we have some animals being processed right now and should have a pretty good supply for awhile. While we have faced some challenges with our lamb supply over the past year we feel we have that problem solved for this year. All of our animals seem to be coming through the winter just fine, so it should be a very good year for us.
