In the beginning... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the beginning, God created the Heavens
and the Earth and populated the Earth with
broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green and
yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man
and Woman would live long and healthy lives.
Then using God's great gifts, Satan created
Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme
Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate
with that?" And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman
said, "and as long as you're at it, add some
sprinkles." And they gained 10 pounds. And
Satan smiled. So God said, "Try my fresh
green salad." And Satan presented
Thousand
Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic
toast on the side. And Man and Woman
unfastened their belts following the repast.
God then created a light fluffy white cake, named it "Angel Food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food." Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained pounds. God then gave grass finished beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created feedlots and McDonald's with its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super size them!" And Satan said, "It is good." And Man went into cardiac arrest. God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery. Then Satan created HMOs.

Summer in the Mountains ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After getting 10 inches of snow in the
mountains last week we are finally getting a
taste of summer here in the Rockies, and it is
wonderful. The grass is greening up nicely,
the skies are clear and so blue it redefines the
color, and the combination is breathtakingly
beautiful. We were getting a little tired of the
rain and snow, but in the end the effect is
wonderful for an area choked by drought not
so very long ago.
Our calves are looking really good. The sunshine and fresh grass do amazing things to them. While just a few weeks ago they looked very much like they had just come off of winter pasture, they are looking full and fresh now. We are very happy about the quality of calves we have this year. Each year gets better.

Out of Town ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We will be heading for Houston, Texas, on
June 4th, and will be gone until June 18th or
19th. Allan's dad found out a few weeks ago
that he has bladder cancer, and last week he
found out he has acute leukemia. He is
beginning chemotherapy next week. Allan's
mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last
year and is also taking a mild chemotherapy,
so this is a very challenging time for them.
The whole family is headed for Houston for a family reunion of sorts. We hope this lifts his folks' spirits. The doctors feel very positive about his chances for recovery, and Allan's mom seems to be doing fine. The good news is that Allan's dad is 82 and his mom is almost 80, and they have had many healthy, wonderful years. We are praying that they have many healthy years left on this earth. Your prayers for them would be very welcome.

June Specials ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although we will be gone for so many weeks,
we would still like to offer some specials for
June. If you order by June 3rd we can try to
ship them on the 4th. Otherwise your order
will ship on the 25th. Tenderized Round Steak
will be on sale at 25% off the regular price of
$5.99, or $4.49 per pound. This steak is
great for Fajitas, stir fry, pan fried steaks, or
even grilling. Since it is tenderized (not
chemically) it is not only rich and flavorful but
also juicy and tender.
We are also offering our lamb ribs on sale at $1.34 per pound, discounted from the regular price of $1.79 per pound. We do not even offer these on the website so be sure to take advantage of our good supply and price. Slow cooking them is important, but adding a marinade or rub makes them quite wonderful. And then tossing them on the grill for a few minutes to get that barbecued flavor works really well. Have fun experimenting but be sure to let us know if you come up with a recipe worth sharing.

This looks to be a very good year for
GrassRoots Meats. Every year gets better
and with the welcome
rains the grasses and animals are looking
very good.
Should be some great tasting beef and lamb
in the fall. Having our son home from the Navy
this Memorial Day was wonderful. God
continues to bless us and our
family. May he bless each and every one of
you!
