Higher Gas Prices ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This cartoon makes me feel old because I
realize that there are those of you who cannot
relate to this old man. You are too young to
remember the time when gas stations were
called service stations. You are too young to
remember that most businesses were built
around service. Price was important, but the
opportunity to buy at near to wholesale prices
was unheard of.
We are able to buy so much more today, with price competition so intense. Our money goes so much further. But we are beginning to realize that we have sacrificed something important - service. It does not come without a price. Shopping with someone local, someone you know and trust, can offer you intangible benefits that have a value beyond the product itself. We thank you for your support of our efforts to serve you with high quality meat at affordable prices.

Where Is YOUR Meat Coming From? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The New York Times recently wrote an article
about the debate over "country of origin"
labeling for meat products. At present
retailers do not need to tell you that the meat
you are buying is from a foreign country.
Much of the organic and grass fed meat sold
in the large health food chains comes from
Australia. Importing from other countries
seems to be the overall trend in food products
these days. That is why we are able to get
summer vegetables from South America
during winter at the local
grocery store, at prices that easily compete
with in-season summer prices.
You can click on the link below to read the article yourself if you would like. Unfortunately you will have to sign up with a user name, etc. The article is long but informative for those of you who want to know what is going on. All of the controversy feeds the momentum for the "buy local" and "buy from someone you know" movements. We would love to hear your comments. Please let us know what we can do to better serve your needs. |

Summer Columbines ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to thank our
good friend, Jim Dowling, from Longmont,
Colorado, for this beautiful picture of our state
flower. He is quite
the photographer and from time to time
supplies me with great pictures to share with
you. Thanks, Jim!

Lessons From Dogs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A friend of ours recently emailed this to us,
and I just loved it. Wish I could be more like a
dog. Certainly they do not feel the pressures
of our busy life.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. Take naps. Stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Update on Allan's Dad ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The good news is that Allan's dad is
responding very well to the chemo drug he is
taking. All of his reports show improvement,
and the doctor thinks he has a good chance
of going into remission.
However, he is in and out of the hospital fighting an infection in the bone of one of his fingers. He has taken all kinds of powerful antibiotics but just does not seem to be able to shake it off. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and encouragement. Your continued prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Lamb ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to talk to you about two cuts of lamb
that I think are great values and are often
overlooked - perhaps because you don't know
how great they are. First of all, there are the
Sirloin Chops. They come 2 to a pack,
are cut from the loin area, and have lots of
meat and very little fat on them. At $8.99 per
pound, compared to $13.59 for Loin Chops,
they are already a great value. For this month
only we will sell them at $7.99 per pound to
encourage you to try them out.
Another of my favorite cuts is the lamb Leg Steak. It is best compared to the beef Sirloin Steak in terms of texture, taste and ease of preparation. Leg Steaks have very little fat, a very small bone, and can be tossed on the grill with just a dusting of your favorite steak seasonings and cooked to a wonderful medium rare. Delicious with a salad and grilled zucchini. Again, at $9.99 per pound they are also a great value, but this month we hope you will try them at $8.99 per pound.

Beef ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also I want to let you know about a beef cut
that I think is a great value - the Arm Roast.
These beautiful roasts are about 2 inches
thick, string wrapped, and very lean. They are
best slow cooked at a low temperature until
they nearly fall apart. This roast is an
undiscovered gem. At $5.99 they too are a
great value, but we will offer them to you this
month at $4.99.
We also have lots of Beef Kabob meat, Short Ribs and Briskets for summer grilling. Take 15% off your order for Beef Kabob, Short Ribs and Briskets during the month of August.

In Closing... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I apologize for the length of the newsletter this
month - I actually thought it would be a very
short one. So much to say, so little time to say
it. Once again, I would like to take a moment
to thank you for all your orders this year. We
are growing fast and doing our best to supply
you with the finest quality meat we can
produce. God bless you all.
