It Must Be Spring
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spring in Colorado is not our favorite season for only one reason - the mud. The weather goes back and forth from sunny, summery days to wet, wintry days. It is as if it just cannot decide which way to go. We are teased with warm, short sleeve weather one day and the next we are putting our winter coats back on and shoveling snow. Today is one of those snowy days.
Don't confuse my fussing for complaining. Even when we are tracking mud across my newly cleaned floors, we are so grateful to live in such a beautiful place with a landscape of such majestic beauty. It reminds us what a wonderful artist God is, and how much fun He must have had designing and creating this beautiful world for us.
New Bull!!!
Allan and I just returned from a whirlwind trip that has left us pretty exhausted but excited. We took some heifers to pasture in Oklahoma, went to Kansas to buy a bull, took the bull back to Oklahoma, and returned to Pagosa, all in 5 days. 2500 miles. We even stopped along the way to look at a ranch. Good to be home again.
Allan has been doing a lot of research on the web for a new bull to further improve our grass genetics program. We needed another bull to put with our first calf heifers, and he found us a great one. We are very excited about the direction we are going. While it will be three more years before the first calf will be finished and ready to process, we are confident that this bull will fit in with our program and provide the kind of calves we are looking for. He comes from a great line of sires and dams that have been bred to do well on grass and promises to compliment the program Allan has been working on for a number of years now.
Keep It In Perspective
"Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital dying of nothing." A friend emailed this to us recently and it really made me laugh. Reminds me not to get too crazy about what I eat, drink, and breathe. Some things are really beyond our control and best left in the hands of God. The fact is that we will inevitably all die one day. This life is only temporary and the spirit, which is eternal, should be our primary focus and more attention should be paid to it than to our bodies.
On the other hand, if you are like us, when we do pass on we prefer to die at home rather than in a hospital, and we prefer to die of old age rather than some preventable disease. Good health is merely the slowest rate at which one can die. So we are doing our best to provide both the body and the spirit with the nutrients they need to thrive.
Meat Supplies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have a good supply of beef and lamb right now. At least for awhile we have beef Filets, New Yorks, Rib Eyes and Sirloins. We can fill orders for quarters, but halves and wholes must be special ordered and will take about 6 weeks. We have plenty of lamb as well, and lots of nice boneless leg roasts for Easter and Passover.
