Container Gardening ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gardening at 7500 feet is a real challenge.
Tilling the soil is certainly hard, planting is
filled with hope, watering is a constant need,
weeding can be a back breaking chore, and
reaping the harvest can be one of the most
rewarding things we can ever do. It is truly an
amazing thing that God can turn the tiniest
seed into a large plant with beautiful leaves
and delicious fruit with just a little dirt and a lot
of water. But so many of the gardens I have
planted in Colorado were completely
destroyed before fruition due to hale storms
and early freezes. It is very disheartening,
and I have been discouraged from planting for
many years now.
For the last few years I have tried container gardening, with moderate success. This year has been my most successful. I think what made this year better was to start with a bag of rich manure soil and then to water it daily with just enough water to keep the soil moist. I planted tomatoes, broccoli, radishes, kale, spinach, beans, carrots, and brussel sprouts. I am presently harvesting tomatoes, radishes, spinach and broccoli, and the rest is looking good. It has really been fun watching it grow, and even more fun harvesting. While my pots are not producing tons of produce, it is enough to enjoy and has required no weeding.

Lots of Rain ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have had a fair amount of rain this
summer, although we went through fairly long
periods of drought when we were really
hurting. The grasses are good and the
animals are healthy and finishing very well.
We have lots of beef this year but we
encourage you to get your orders in soon for
quarters, halves and wholes. I know it is early
to start thinking about stocking up for winter,
but we have good supplies and are able to
ship right now.

September Lamb Special ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lamb Sirloin Chops are on sale this month
only at $7.64 per pound, a savings of $1.35
per pound. Take advantage of this great
offer. The savings can help to offset a lot of
your shipping or delivery cost.
The Sirloin Chops are packed two to a package, and the packages average about 2/3 of a pound. One chop per person might be enough, but they are so delicious that we usually recommend at least two per person. Sirloin Chops are a great value, so be sure to take advantage of this great price.

In Closing ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you are having a great summer. As we
watch the weather reports about Hurricane
Gustav heading towards the Texas and
Louisiana coast we are reminded how
wonderful it is to live in the mountains where
hurricanes and tornadoes are not a threat.
God bless you all, and thank you again for
being such great customers.
